    According to the GAO, it will cost $12 billion to clean up the contamination caused by tens of thousands of leaking underground gasoline storage tanks. The figure vastly eclipses the $72 million that Congress and the Bush Administration provide each year.     Australian scrap giant Sims Group is buying two US electronic recycling operations for about $60 million to add to its rapidly growing electronic waste business.   3. Ohio EPA Could Deny Stark County Landfill Its License

    The Ohio EPA is warning Countywide Recycling and Disposal, a division of Republic Services, that it could lose its license to operate if it fails to extinguish an underground fire and prevent leakage. In a letter to William Franks, Stark County's health commissioner, Ohio EPA Director Chris Korleski said the 258-acre landfill is not in compliance with Ohio's environmental laws.     Commercial and residential waste company WCA Waste Corp. is buying Oklahoma City based American Waste Inc. and related units. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.   8. Covanta's Fourth Quarter Revenues and Earnings Up

    Covanta Holding Corp. (NYSE: CVA) reported fourth-quarter net income of $11.9 million, or 8 cents a share, up from $5.71 million, or 4 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue rose to $317.9 million from $303.4 million. Meanwhile, the company reaffirmed its full-year 2007 earnings forecast of 65 cents to 75 cents a share.   9. Pure Earth, Inc. Acquires Major New Jersey Waste Processing Complex

    Pure Earth, Inc. agreed to acquire a major NJ waste processing complex that consists of three companies in the recycling business located on 32 acres in Vineland, NJ. The companies process and recycle oils, solvents, refinery wastes, contaminated soils and filter cakes in solid and liquid form, which collectively is a business with about $22 million in revenues serving over 300 customers in 10 states and employing 120 people.
